A Little Update on the Weekly Novel Scenes
So, quick behind-the-scenes note about the weekly novel excerpts I’ve been posting here. I’m eight scenes in now, which is wild to think about. When I started, it was partly to keep myself accountable—if I promised the internet I’d upload a scene every week, surely I’d have to follow through, right? And partly I was curious: would sharing these snippets bring in a few more readers? Maybe spark some interest? Maybe even nudge my blog traffic out of its very comfortable, very quiet baseline?
Well… not really. My traffic has stayed almost exactly the same, which is to say: still tiny, still cozy, still basically unchanged. Not that I expected a stampede of new readers, but I thought maybe one or two people might wander in. So far, not so much.
Now I’ve hit a snag: the next scene needs a pretty heavy revision before it’s postable, and doing that means stopping my current writing project to go work a troublesome scene. And honestly? The task-switching feels like a lot right now. More friction than I want to deal with.
Which leaves me wondering: should I just skip this week and resume next week? Or have I already shared enough scenes for someone to get the general flavor of the novel—and maybe it’s okay if I put my energy somewhere else for a bit?
Okay, it is clear I am skipping this week, but should I continue next week?
I don’t have a clear answer yet. Part of me really likes the ritual of posting every week, even if I’m the only one keeping score. The other part is saying, “Hey, maybe there is no point in if it isn’t actually doing much for the blog.”
Anyway, no big announcement or anything—just sharing where my head’s at. I’ll figure it out. More soon. Maybe a scene. Maybe a ramble like this. We’ll see.
If you happen to end up here and want to know what scenes I’m talking about then you can start from scene 1 here.
